Looking Forward to 2010!
Together we're better! -
02/22/2010
Happy Monday! Starting the morning off with a cup of coffee I felt a bit nostalgic. All of this talk about the economy and the "new normal" had me reflecting on when I first started in credit union land. It was 1977 and Jimmy Carter was our president. The cost of a stamp was .13 and a gallon of gas was .62! The unemployment rate was 7.7% and the DJI was between 800 - 999. One of my favorite movies, Star Wars IV: A New Hope, was the first of six installments from director George Lucas. Shiny shirts, bellbottom trousers and disco attire were the norm. Elvis Presley died that year at the age of 42 and Led Zeppelin performed their last ever concert in the United States. The Police and Van Halen signed a record contract and the soundtrack to the movie Saturday Night Fever became an enormous hit. Bohemian Rhapsody was named one of the best singles! Voyager 2 was launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida and it carried a 12 inch copper phonograph record containing greetings in dozens of languages, samples of music and sounds of nature. I started here at Spokane Federal Credit Union in 1980 shortly after the eruption of Mount St. Helens. We had savings, certificates of deposits and checking accounts were fairly new. Our assets were around $16 million and we wouldn't have IRA's for another two years. Times have certainly changed but we have had to adapt to a "new normal" before and we can do it again! We are healthy and have loyal members who think of us first to help them with their financial needs. It is good to reflect on the past and all the changes we have experienced. However, I am looking forward to our future and yours. Together we will share new memories and more greatest hits for 2010!
